Polk County, MO Office of Emergency Management

What We Do

Office of Emergency Management (OEM)  works closely with all Polk County municipalities, all public safety disciplines, and critical private/public sector entities to engage in comprehensive disaster planning for Polk County. In addition to serving as a liaison to local, county, state, and federal agencies, the PC OEM also serves as a liaison to utility companies and private sector companies within our region. These partners are key players who help support response and recovery efforts during emergencies.

The PC OEM’s goal is to mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from the effects of natural or man-made disasters and other hazards or emergencies that may occur within our region. The PC OEM maintains or facilitates the updating of more than 100 plans, annexes, appendices, and supporting documents that guide preparedness, response, and mitigation activities that can be applied to any disaster or emergency affecting the region.

Polk County Amateur Radio

Civilian Communications

Trained and licensed amateur radio operators that have committed to assist the community through practical exercises, education and training,  and development of reliable alternate communications.

C.E.R.T.

Civilian Emergency Response Teams

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
